Scarlet Halton
Scarlet was born in Buckinghamshire in the UK and trained for four years at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. On leaving she was invited back to the school to spend another year on their prestigious Junior Fellowship programme.
Scarlet has been performing as a musician since she was a teenager. In 2016 she worked with composer Sir Karl Jenkins and made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall, New York, performing his work Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary. As a multi-instrumentalist, Scarlet has given recitals and concerts in various ensembles at home and abroad, performing at such venues as the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral, La Madeleine, St Stephen’s Cathedral (Vienna), and The Town Hall (New York). She is currently a bassist and backing vocalist for pop artist Jo Hill, having recently toured the UK with her band.
Since moving to London in 2018, Scarlet has performed at various jazz clubs in the city such as The Vortex, Piano Smithfield, the Jazz Sanctuary, and Ronnie Scott’s. She recently joined The Big Swing, performing with them for their debut at Cadogan Hall as part of the London Jazz Festival as well as two headline performances at Ronnie Scott’s.
Scarlet also arranges for multiple ensembles, both vocal and instrumental. She arranged for the Guildhall's a cappella group, The Conchords, who won the UK title in 2020 and 2022, and subsequently competed in the ICCA international finals in New York. In 2023, she co-directed and arranged for Clare Wheeler's Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Most recently, Scarlet arranged for Belinda Carlisle and the BBC Concert Orchestra, re-working her hit “Heaven is a Place on Earth” for their collaboration.
